Guest Blogger: Sofia Katherine Photography

Hello Blog Readers! Marisa was nice enough to ask me to write a guest blog post about how your makeup effects a photo-shoot so here we go! There are so many reasons to get your makeup and hair done for a photo-shoot but the most important reason is confidence. The key to a good photo-shoot is to be comfortable on camera and it is not always the easiest, but fabulous makeup and hair will help! It is just one less thing you have to worry about that day. Another reason to get your makeup done professionally is so that your makeup artist can ensure to use proper photo and flash friendly products. There are some foundations that will actually reflect light because of the SPF that is in it. The main ingredient, which is zinc, will actually make you look washed out when a photographer uses flashes or lights on you. Not all photographers use flashes in their work but if you are booking me, then you definitely want to make sure there is no SPF in your foundation! Most good photographers will want to capture a good photograph right out of their camera. This is called SOOC (Straight out of camera) and means no editing has been done to the image yet. I personally try to capture my images SOOC and that way there is little or minimal editing to do later. This means making sure my client’s skin is looking its best before a photo-shoot. I do not agree with “fixing” images in Photoshop after shoots unless it is literally impossible to fix it before. This will save a lot of time and effort for your photographer if your makeup artist makes sure your foundation looks flawless.
Here is an interesting photo-shoot overview:
You pay hundreds of dollars for a photo-shoot, even over a few hundred if it is a wedding or larger photo-shoot.
You buy an outfit, a new dress, and new clothes for the family or even if it’s your wedding, a wedding gown.
You invest your time into a photo-shoot. A half a day getting ready, getting the family ready or if it’s a wedding, probably a whole year went into getting the date ready.
You are going to print the images, order prints, or order products with the photos. These photos will be hung in frames in your home which you will buy and have forever.
So why skimp out on getting your makeup done? After all of the above investment into your photo-shoot does $50-100 really matter? If it means you will look that much more amazing?

It’s a no brainer. Definitely consider getting your makeup done professionally for a photo-shoot or at least get some advice on using the right professional products suitable for photography.
XOXO Sofia Katherine

Color Correcting

Have a breakout that came out of the blue? Its okay, by using color correcting techniques you can cover up pretty much anything! You can cover up acne, dark circles or bags underneath eyes, tattoos, pretty much any mark!

First tone and moisturize your face. Then grab the green and put it directly on the red spots(don't blend all the way in, should see some green still). Then put concealer or cover up on top of it. Blend :)

You can get this awesome product here!

Green:
Counteracts redness in the skin. The perfect color corrector for people with rosacea or red spots on face. Great for covering acne or sudden breakouts.

Peach/ Salmon:
Perfect for people who have more visible darkness under the eyes.  Also great to conceal bruising and freckles or hyperpigmentation.

Lilac:
Counteracts sallow/yellowed skin. The perfect color corrector for people who have a bit too much yellow in their skin. Lilac will brighten up skin!

Yellow:
Counteracts lilac or purple to blue undertones. Great for covering up tattoos.

Pink:
Counteracts blueish tones and brightens. Perfect for people who have visible veins on the skin or underneath the eyes.

Color correcting is so important, the picture below is a great example of the differences that color correcting can do. It can help make your skin look flawless.

I hope you learned a little bit more about color correcting and I hope you go out and try it :) Enjoy guys!

My Everything

I figured it would be fun to do a post about my sweetheart and our beautiful daughter. They are the most important people in my life. I am so blessed every single day to see these two smiling back at me. Curt and I met July 10th, 2009 (it was love at first sight ) and got married March 12th, 2011 in the Washington DC temple. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for more information about our religion go here. We went on our honeymoon to Key West, Florida. When we got home from Key West we spent the summer in Emerald Isle, NC. We enjoyed having our toes in the sand and being together in such a beautiful place. Sadly summer came to an end and we moved to Utah where Curt went to Utah Valley University and in April 2012 we moved to Calgary Alberta (where we currently live). We then had our daughter at the Rockyview Hospital (same one I was born in) on June 12, 2012. My husband and I both agree that there is nothing better than being parents, it has shown us a new love that neither of us have ever experienced. We are so grateful for the opportunity we have every single day to be parents.  Here are some photos of our lives together.

Curt is so handsome! I dont know how I got so lucky to find such an amazing man. He is the best dad to Reese and an amazing husband to me.

The photo below is the summer we lived at the beach in NC, hence we are so tanned! I want to be this tanned again!

Curt and Reese bring smiles to my face every single day. I'm sure that you'll be seeing a lot more of them on my blog. Thanks for stopping by!

BOLD BROWS

I personally think that eyebrows are so important. I think every woman needs to take care of them. Imagine if you didn't have brows.... faces would be so boring and awkward.
So heres the deal, you need to rock em! I love adding in some brown shadow or brow filler to make them more bold. It makes your whole makeup look, looked finished and put together.

Check out these babes and their BOLD brows

So ladies, grab a small angled brush and some brown eyeshadow or you can always get a eyebrow pencil to fill them in and get busy making your brows pop out. If you do decide to use a brown eyeshadow to fill in your brows make sure the shadow is matte (no shimmer).  Start from the inner corner and work out. Going over it with a comb helps brush through and makes them look complete.

Hope you enjoy bold brows as much as I do. I'd love to hear your feedback on bold eyebrows!
